Early BMW Ignition and Generator Unit The BT-H unit provides ignition and supplies approximately 100 watts at 12 volts for lighting. The engine can be started even if a battery is not fitted although it is recommended that a battery is normally fitted to give a balanced performance. The unit comes complete with an extractor for the alternator and a 12 volt regulator / rectifier that can be fitted unobtrusively under the petrol tank. This unit fits under the front cover as a direct replacement for the original magneto and dynamo. No modifications to the engine are required so that the machine can be returned to the standard set up if required. 50S & 69S have a crankshaft damper that cannot be used with the BTH product. This should not be a problem as long as the machine isn't run at maximum revs for long. Malcolm McNair reports that the BT-H unit on his R67 gives first kick starting every time and smoother running. Price: £350.00 +VAT and carriage.
